Welcome to Hampstead Triathlon Club.
We are a Triathlon Club in based in Hampstead, London that welcomes triathletes of all ages and abilities.
Since forming in September 2012 we have been developing and growing very well with members from all over London and more training sessions being added to our weekly program.
The swim is the first part of the triathlon and often scares people away from the sport when it really shouldn't!
Our aim at Hampstead Triathlon Club is to help you to swim confidently so that you can overcome any concerns, enjoy swimming and triathlon events.
We hold four regular classes at Kentish Town Leisure Centre all year round so you are sure to find a session that works for you. These classes are your base swimming sessions designed to improve swimming confidence, fitness and for fun
In the summer we hold wetsuit swimming sessions at Parliament Hill Lido to make sure that you are prepared for Open Water Swimming as you would do in a race.
After the swim and the first transition (T1) is the bike section.
You will see all types of bikes at a triathlon event and its true that some are faster, lighter and more aerodynamic than others. This doesn't mean that cyclists with those bikes are any faster than you!
As long as your bike is in good condition you can compete! It's true that you will feel the benefit of a better bike but lets worry about that later.
Hampstead Triathlon Club has a regular lead group bike ride that takes part on Sundays throughout the year. There are at least two ability levels so you can pick your speed/distance on the day.
In the winter we have spinning classes at Kentish Town Leisure Centre to make sure that your fitness is up to scratch before the season starts.
In the summer we have evening cycling training sessions based at Regents Park to sharpen you up before your races.
The final leg of the triathlon is the run. This isn't like any ordinary run, however!
After the swim and the bike your body is understandably more fatigued than it would be before your normal runs. In addition to this the work on the bike may mean that your "running muscles" take a while to engage properly. Its a strange feeling!
Hampstead Triathlon Club have running sessions on a Saturday morning.
In the winter we tend to favour longer group runs. These help work on your strength and endurance. This may sound daunting but running in a group is so much more fun. The time flies by!
Closer to the race season we have weekly track sessions at Hampstead Heath Running Track. Here we can work more on pacing and speed to help you finish each event strongly and to the best of your ability!
